How to apply for RED certification for a smartwatch
发布日期:2026-08-28阅读量:120发布者:suma
Smartwatches exported to EU countries need to obtain CE certification. Since smartwatches are wireless products, they need to comply with the CE-RED directive, and they also need to comply with the CE-EMC directive.
Besides indicating time, smartwatches should also have one or more functions such as reminders, navigation, calibration, monitoring, and interaction; display methods include pointers, digital, images, etc. The arrival of smartwatches has made our lives more convenient because they are compact, easy to carry, and fully functional! Different products have different testing items, depending on whether your smartwatch has Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. If it does, you need to test EMC and LVD RED; if not, only EMC testing is required. Generally, smartwatches have Bluetooth and Wi-Fi functions, so they need to comply with RED and Low Voltage Directive (LVD) requirements!
What are the test items for the RED smart watch?
1. Electromagnetic compatibility test (EMC test)
2. Safety test LVD (According to the new directive, this test is also required for RF products with battery input)
3. Radio communication equipment testing according to European ETSI standards (RF test)
4. Notification of allowed frequency spectrum in Europe
5. CTR (TBR) test
6. Electrical safety and health protection test (SAR assessment)
Smartwatch CE RED Documentation Requirements:
1. Block (Block Diagram) (Document Format: PDF)
Indicates the functions and purposes of each part of the product; the chip model provided in the block diagram must be consistent with the model described in the BOM/SCH/product internal chip photos (the product internal chip photos must display the IC model text description); the block diagram must reflect all relevant information on crystal oscillator frequencies, the frequency range of functions supported by the chip, antenna locations, etc.
2. SCH (Schematic) (Document Format: PDF)
The provided SCH diagram must be a searchable PDF file (some image formats that are not searchable cannot be used). The SCH should not contain garbled text; it should represent a diagram showing the connections of all components on the circuit board. The SCH must include specifications for each component, chip parameters, antenna information, etc. It is preferable for the SCH to have a white background, and clicking on the corresponding values should not lead to links, making it easier to modify when it is inconsistent with other files.
Describes the working principle of the prototype, all functions supported by the used chips, frequency bands, and maximum power parameters, etc.; the chips and functions used must correspond between SCH/BOM/Block/Operational description.
4. BOM (Bill of Materials) (Document format: Excel or PDF)
Describes all materials involved in the composition of the product; the BOM must include the component name, model, parameters, reference designator, quantity, and manufacturer; the chips in the BOM must correspond exactly with SCH/Block/OP, and the BOM reference designator must be consistent with Placement, SCH, and internal documentation.
5. PCB Layout (Document format: PDF)
Refers to the layout and routing of the product's PCB; must be consistent with the internal PCB of the product.
Refers to the location diagram of components on the PCB; must be consistent with the product's internal PCB, match internal components, and correspond to the component locations on the SCH diagram.
7. Hardware/Software Version (Software/Hardware Version Number)
Software Version Number: The version number of the mobile phone operating system
Hardware Version Number: The version number of the mobile phone PCB circuit board
The provided hardware version must match the version on the PCB board
8. Label
Labels must include (the following applies to mobile phone labels): product name, brand, model, device rated voltage, current, CE mark, trash can mark, product manufacturer name, manufacturer address. The indoor use mark is optional (BACL has a label template; if the customer does not provide one, the default is to use the BACL template for the label)
(Note: 1. For products that must be used indoors, such as routers, the indoor use mark must be included)
9. User manual (Instruction Manual) (Document Format: WORD)
Introduces the method of using the product, its functions, precautions, etc.; the first page of the manual must include the product name, model, trademark (if there are series models and series trademarks, all must be listed), and the manufacturer name; the product's functions, frequency, and corresponding maximum power. The functions described in the manual must correspond to the product. The manual must include the following warnings: (Customers can add warnings to the manual according to the actual functions of the product).
